This excerpt from my forthcoming master’s thesis showcases my academic writing and research capabilities. I have included the Introduction, Theory, and initial Analysis chapters to demonstrate my ability to integrate primary and secondary sources with precision, apply historical critical discourse analysis as a methodological framework, and connect complex theoretical foundations to empirical material. I authored and submitted a successful $640,000 grant application to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources on behalf of the City of Marion, demonstrating my ability to manage complex funding proposals and align local infrastructure goals with state priorities. This project showcased my skills in strategic planning, community impact analysis, and cross-sector collaboration to advance trail development and regional connectivity.
$1.7 million from HOME Investment Partnerships Program, Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA)
I prepared and secured $1.7 million in federal HOME funding through the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority for the Affordable Housing Corporation, illustrating my expertise in housing policy, program design, and compliance with federal grant requirements. This work highlights my capacity to develop compelling narratives that connect community needs with funding opportunities and to manage large-scale affordable housing initiatives from concept to implementation.

Participant Selection Plan and Program Manual for
Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) Program
As the first organization in Indiana to implement the Tenant-Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) program, I designed the full program structure — establishing a referral system, developing marketing strategies, building community partnerships, and defining eligibility criteria. This work demonstrates my skills in program design and implementation, stakeholder engagement, and strategic communication, as well as my ability to translate policy goals into practical, scalable housing solutions. Our TBRA program became a model for similar initiatives across Indiana.
Prospective Resident Relocation Guide for Links to Locals Program
I created a comprehensive program guide to support Links to Locals, a community integration initiative that connected newcomers with local residents serving as guides and mentors. This project highlights my skills in strategic communication, creative marketing, and community engagement, as well as my ability to design accessible, user-focused materials that strengthen social cohesion and appeal to a diverse audience.
Organization Program Guide for Affordable Housing Corporation
I authored a comprehensive program guide that presented the mission, history, and ongoing work of the Affordable Housing Corporation, designed to inform and engage potential partners and funders. This project demonstrates my skills in strategic communication, organizational storytelling, and stakeholder outreach, as well as my ability to translate complex programmatic work into clear, compelling materials that support collaboration and funding opportunities.
EAC Child-Friendly Child Policy Facilitator Guide for Save the Children
On behalf of Dr. Cherie Enns, I assisted with the publication of the EAC Child-Friendly Child Policy Facilitator Guide produced for Save the Children. My work involved editing the document for publication, including proper citation integration, structural formatting, and content updates. This project demonstrates my skills in academic editing, publication preparation, and policy communication, as well as my ability to collaborate on international development projects aimed at advancing child-focused policy initiatives.
Event Management
'Meating the Future'
As an extension of the course SUM4035: Meat Cultures, I planned and hosted the public event 'Meating the Future'. I recruited and coordinated a panel of speakers, including the owner of a local animal sanctuary and two University of Oslo researchers; designed and distributed marketing materials across digital and physical platforms; and facilitated the event on the day of the discussion. This project demonstrates my skills in event planning, stakeholder engagement, and strategic communication, as well as my ability to create innovative, interdisciplinary spaces for dialogue on sustainability and food systems.
Community Pitch Night
I conceived and executed Community Pitch Night, a downtown business competition developed in partnership with the owner of a revitalized historic building, offering the winner a one-year free lease. I led the project from concept to implementation — overseeing program design, defining participation criteria, developing and executing marketing strategies, and managing all event logistics, from technical setup to on-site coordination. This project highlights my skills in strategic planning, stakeholder collaboration, event management, and community economic development. The event drew more than 100 attendees, and the winning business, Obi’s BBQ, remains a thriving local success six years later.
BYOC²: "Build Your Own Community, Buy Your Own Coffee
In 2019, I organized a monthly business networking event: BYOC², which stood for "Build Your Own Community, Buy Your Own Coffee. I partnered with a local community-oriented coffee shop and led the program development from idea to execution — coordinating logistics, building community partnerships, and designing the event’s logo and promotional digital materials. Most of the outreach was conducted through a targeted social media campaign on Facebook, and the event was a major success, drawing strong participation and raising awareness of sustainable practices in the community. Website Rebrand for Grant County Economic Growth Council
I led the rebranding and redevelopment of the Grant County Economic Growth Council’s website, transitioning the organization from WordPress to Squarespace. This project demonstrates my skills in digital strategy, user-focused design, and content development, as well as my ability to research industry best practices and optimize web presence through SEO and strategic storytelling.
Marketing Materials for Community Pitch Night
I created a full suite of marketing materials — including a video, press releases, posters, a billboard, and a social media campaign — to support the launch and promotion of Community Pitch Night. This work showcases my skills in strategic communication, creative design, and public outreach, and reflects my ability to craft cohesive messaging across multiple platforms to engage community audiences. Marketing Materials for Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) Program
As part of the TBRA program, I hosted a "Landlord Coffee Hour" to education potential community collaborators on the new program and provide opportunities for networking. This demonstrates my skills in translating complex housing policy into accessible public messaging, building awareness through targeted outreach, and using communication tools to support program implementation and stakeholder engagement.
